VPN Server Installation on Debian OS

Following VPN server setup requests from multiple customers via support tickets, we decided to explain the VPN installation process. To set up your own VPN server, you can purchase the
SSD VDS 1 package from Netinternet at https://www.netinternet.com.tr/vps-sunucular with the Debian 7 operating system and follow the installation steps below.

Phase 1: Installation

After
updating our apt-get repo for installation, we install the aptitude package manager and use it to install pptpd. This brings to mind the age-old question: “Which came first, the chicken or the egg?” :)apt-get update
apt-get install aptitude
aptitude install pptpdPhase 2: SettingsAfter the installation is complete, to determine the local
IP addresses to be used on our VPN server, we open the /etc/pptpd.conf file with any text editor, scroll to the last line, and enter the following parameters.localip 192.168.124.5
remoteip 192.168.124.234-238,192.168.124.245Please note that if there will be multiple
VPN users, they will use these local IP addresses in the VPN network.Note: On minimal Debian, the default text editor is vim. If you have difficulty using vim, you can install the nano editor with apt-get install nano. Then, to configure connection settings, open the
/etc/ppp/pptpd-options file with nano or vim, scroll to the last line, and add the following;noipx
mtu 1490
mru 1490Finally, to define a VPN user and password, open the /etc/ppp/chap-secrets file and add a line in the following format.netinternet *
passwordburaya *To define multiple users, enter a username and password on each line in a similar format. Above, we defined a VPN user with username “netinternet” and password “passwordburaya”.Everything is in order so far. Now, to prepare
the server to run VPN, we need to enable the packet forwarding feature. To do this, open the /etc/sysctl.conf file and remove the # (number sign) character in front of “net.ipv4.ip_forward=1” and save. Then save the file and run the sysctl -p command from the
console. After that, the only remaining task is related to Iptables.iptables -t nat -A POSTROUTING -o eth0 -j MASQUERADEAfter applying the command above, all you need to do to start the VPN service is write the /etc/init.d/pptpd start command. When you add a new VPN
user, you need to restart the VPN service with the /etc/init.d/pptpd restart command. The iptables command written above will not run when the server restarts. Therefore, paste the command above the exit 0 in the /etc/rc.local file and save it — the server will
automatically apply the command every time it starts. If you have any questions about the VPN installation and service usage, please write in the comments section below this knowledge base document.Good Work.

Debian VPN Server Setup

VPN Server Installation on Debian OS

Following VPN server setup requests from multiple customers via support tickets, we decided to explain the VPN installation process. To set up your own
VPN server, you can purchase the SSD VDS 1 package at https://www.netinternet.com.tr/vps-sunucular with the Debian 7 operating system and follow the installation steps below.

Installation

After updating our apt-get repo for installation, we install the
aptitude package manager and use it to install pptpd. This brings to mind the age-old question: “Which came first, the chicken or the egg?” :)

apt-get update
apt-get install aptitude
aptitude install
pptpd

Settings

After the installation is complete, to determine the local IP addresses to be used on our VPN server, we open the /etc/pptpd.conf file with any text editor, scroll to the last line, and enter the following
parameters.

localip 192.168.124.5
remoteip 192.168.124.234-238,192.168.124.245

Please note that if there will be multiple VPN users, they will use these local IP addresses in the VPN network.

In the meantime, on
minimal Debian, the default text editor is vim. If you have difficulty using vim,

 apt-get install nano

you can install the nano editor. Then, to configure connection settings, open

/etc/ppp/pptpd-options

with nano or vim, scroll to the last line, and add the following;

noipx
mtu 1490
mru 1490

Finally, to define a VPN user and password, open

/etc/ppp/chap-secrets

and add a line in the following format.

netinternet * passwordburaya *

To define multiple users, enter a username and password on each line in a
similar format. Above, we defined a VPN user with username “netinternet” and password “passwordburaya”. Everything is in order so far. Now, to prepare the server to run VPN, we need to enable the packet forwarding feature. To do this,
open

 /etc/sysctl.conf

and remove the # (number sign) character in front of

“net.ipv4.ip_forward=1”

and save.

Config Settings

Then save the file and run the
sysctl -p command from the console. After that, the only remaining task is related to Iptables.

iptables -t nat -A POSTROUTING -o eth0 -j MASQUERADE

After applying the command above, all you need to do
to start the VPN service is write

/etc/init.d/pptpd start

When you add a new VPN user, restart the VPN service with

/etc/init.d/pptpd restart

The iptables command
written above will not run when the server restarts. Therefore, paste the command above the exit 0 in

/etc/rc.local

and save the file — the server will automatically apply the command every time it
starts.

A DNS entry for "domain.com" already exists

On cPanel servers, when you delete accounts, DNS records may remain active on the server. For example, if you have multiple hosting servers and use the same nameserver addresses
on all servers via the DNS Cluster method, when you delete an account from the web server, the DNS record may not be deleted. This situation can also apply to a single server. In such cases, when you try to add the same domain to the server again, you will receive an
error like the following.

Create Failed

When you encounter such an error, you must first delete the DNS records from the server. In WHM, go to the Delete a DNS Zone section from the left-side menu, find the record of the domain name you want to add in the list,
and delete it. After the deletion is complete, you can create a new account on the server for the domain name.

Error When Adding a Domain

A DNS entry for “domain.com” already exists. You must remove this DNS entry from all servers in the DNS cluster to proceed.

If you are receiving an error like the above, it means
the domain you want to add has a DNS record on the server you are working with. To fix it, go to the “Delete a DNS Zone” section in your WHM Panel, search for the domain name, and delete it. Then you can add the domain. If you do not have WHM Panel access,
you can send a support request from your customer panel.

Domain Suspension

As of January 1, 2014, a regulation put into effect by ICANN regarding domain name registration procedures came into force. According to this regulation, a registration confirmation email will be sent to
the administrator email address specified in the contact information provided during domain name registration. If the sent email is not confirmed/responded to within 14 days, your domain name will be suspended.

Email Restrictions

Through the email restrictions panel, you can determine which file extensions in emails sent to or from you will be blocked, and set a limit on your incoming and outgoing emails.

Blocked
Extensions

Through this panel, you can block extensions such as .bat, .dll, .exe that come in email content, protecting yourself from harmful content. By default, 15 extensions are available in your panel. You can select these extensions, or if you have
different file extensions you want to add, you can add them using the “Add Extension” option.

Email Size Restriction

Email size restriction is a panel where you can set a disk quota in MB for your incoming and outgoing emails. From this section, you can set a
maximum or minimum quota for your emails or configure them as unlimited. By default, this section comes set to 50 MB in your panel. You can also choose how emails that exceed the quota will be handled. If a mail you sent or received exceeds the limit you have set, you
can send it to quarantine for review or automatically reject it.

'./eximstats/smtp' is marked as crashed - Solution

Mail Delivery Reports ‘./eximstats/smtp’ Error

There are many different reasons for problems encountered with mail delivery from servers. You may experience
mail sending issues due to various problems related to IP addresses, domain names, or the server. One of these errors is related to the eximstats database. When a mail cannot be sent, many error emails are returned. The reason for the problem is described in the
returned error emails, helping you identify where the issue is and take action to resolve it.

The error related to the eximstats database is generally as follows.

DeliveryReporter API internal failure: DBD::mysql::db selectall_arrayref failed:
Table ‘./eximstats/smtp’ is marked as crashed and last

When you examine the error message and see this error line, running the following command will be sufficient to resolve it.

mysqlcheck –repair eximstats

After the
command, if the server completed the operation without issues, you should see output like the following on the console.
