Free Hosting Control Panel CWP

Many of our customers who do not provide commercial hosting services but host a few websites needed a free control panel recommendation and installation guide. We installed the CWP (CentOS Web Panel) control panel on a Linux Level1 VPS virtual server with CentOS 6. CWP has many essential features for hosting management and more. Here are our experiences with it.

Installation is quite simple. After connecting to the server via SSH, paste the following commands into the console and the installation will complete in about 15 minutes:

cd /usr/local/src
wget http://centos-webpanel.com/cwp-latest
sh cwp-latest

After installation, the necessary URLs to log in and the MySQL root password will appear on the console. Copy these and connect to the CWP control panel at:

http://YOURSERVERIPADDRESS:2030/

The username and password are your server’s ROOT user credentials.

Along with the control panel, Apache, MySQL, PhpMyAdmin, Varnish, Pure-ftpd, Bind, Postfix, Dovecot and other essential applications are installed. We were pleasantly surprised to see Varnish cache system included, as well as CSF firewall (commonly used in cPanel) and a backup system that can be configured daily, weekly, and monthly per user.

To create a new account, you first need to configure DNS settings. Go to DNS Functions > Edit Nameservers IPs in the control panel and specify the nameserver records. Then go to User Accounts > New Account to create a hosting account. You can define the domain name, hosting username, process limits, and file count limits. After configuring PHP or Apache settings, connect via FTP with the created account credentials and upload your site.

Heartbeat Installation on VDS and SSD VDS Servers

This document explains the Heartbeat installation for Linux servers using our VDS or SSD VDS services, which can improve system performance and allow you to view disk usage details from the customer panel.

You can check whether Heartbeat is installed on your virtual server by going to the virtual server details in your customer panel.

If a Heartbeat installation was done previously and a Kernel update was performed on your Linux server, Heartbeat will be deactivated. To reactivate it, run the following command on your server:

wget -q -O - http://www.netinternet.com.tr/bash/heartbeat.sh | bash

If the installation has never been performed, running this command will display an error message asking you to submit a support ticket. In this case, you need to log in to your customer panel and send a ticket to the support team with your server information for the initial Heartbeat installation.

For more information about Heartbeat installation, please contact us via support ticket.

VMware Tools Installation

VMware Tools must be installed for every VDS virtual server setup to ensure proper operation, prevent time issues, and improve performance. Doing this on Windows is simple — just right-click the virtual server, go to the Guest tab, select Install/Upgrade VMware Tools, which mounts a CD on the virtual server, then run the setup and click Next to complete the installation.

On Linux systems, you need to mount the CD-ROM, save the tar.gz file to the server, and then install it. First, right-click the virtual server, go to the Guest tab, and select Install/Upgrade VMware Tools. Then run the following commands on the server:

mount -r /dev/cdrom /mnt/
cd /mnt
cp VMwareTools-9.0.0-782409.tar.gz /root/
cd
umount -l /mnt/
tar zxf VMwareTools-9.0.0-782409.tar.gz
cd vmware-tools-distrib
perl vmware-install.pl -d

Since VMware Tools is configured against the server’s kernel, if a kernel update is performed on a server, VMware Tools will stop working. In this case, running the last command above again will be sufficient to reinstall VMware Tools.

VDS Installation Process on VMware

In this article, we will share information about creating a virtual machine on VMware (ESX).

Installation Process

First, right-click on the Node on the main server and click “Create a New Virtual Machine”. A step-by-step wizard will open.

Step 1

In the first step, you will see two options: “Typical” and “Custom”. Since we are setting up a standard virtual server, continue with Typical.

Step 2

In the second step, name the virtual server. You can enter a unique name or the server’s main IP address in the “Name” field. Using the IP address is advantageous if you have many virtual servers.

Step 3

In this section, select the disk for the virtual server. You can see all attached disks on the main server with their used and free space. Select the disk you want to install the virtual server on.

Step 4

Select the operating system to be installed: Windows, Linux, or other. Choose the appropriate option and continue.

Step 5

Determine the network layer for the virtual server. If you don’t have different network layers created with virtual switches, you can continue with the standard VM Network > VMXNET 3 option.

Step 6

Select the disk space for the server. There are 3 options, but we recommend Thin Provision. With this option, only the actually used disk space is shown on the main server — if you allocate 250 GB and use 100 GB, only 100 GB will appear as used on the main server.

Step 7

OS, network, and disk steps are complete. Now configure RAM, CPU cores, and other settings. Check the checkbox at the bottom of the page and click Continue. In the next window, adjust RAM and CPU as needed. You can also disable Floppy or Video Card features, or add new features using the Add… button. For CPU, the upper option is the number of virtual processor sockets, and the lower is the number of cores per socket. For example, to give 4 cores: set Virtual Sockets: 2 and Cores per Socket: 2.

WHM Clean Backups Plugin

After setting up daily, weekly, and monthly backups from your WHM panel, backups are taken periodically to the specified directory. However, even if an account is cancelled and deleted, the backup files are not removed. This leads to unnecessary disk usage. If you have many accounts on your server, checking and deleting them one by one is tedious. You can use the Clean Backups software to do this easily. It also has a WHM plugin, so you can easily manage its settings and controls through the interface.

To install, log in as root via SSH and run the following commands:

cd /usr/src
wget http://download.ndchost.com/cleanbackups/latest-cleanbackups
sh latest-cleanbackups

After installation, you can see the Clean Backups section in the plugins section of your WHM panel. By changing the default settings, you can have unnecessary backups automatically deleted periodically.

Plesk Panel Database Creation Process

Click on the Database tab from the panel homepage,

sql0

The page where we will create the database name and password will open. The most important point to pay attention to here is whether the SQL we will use will be MySQL or MSSQL. If a SQL upload process is to be done, we need to choose the SQL type accordingly. For example, if we have a MySQL backup, we cannot create an MSSQL database and perform the upload process automatically; manual operations from SQL Studio Manager are required and you will experience problems with your SQL file. In general, if we are creating a new site, it will be logical to choose an MSSQL database if we have an ASP-based system, and a MySQL database if we have a PHP-HTML site,

sql3

We fill in the information and click OK, and we complete the database creation process,

sql4
