To perform backups on our servers, we first need to configure backup settings from the Legacy Backup Configuration section under the Backup menu in WHM.
On this screen, you can configure the backup process for accounts on the server. As the name suggests, this is an older type of backup configuration. You can also perform the same operation with the new backup structure, Backup Configuration. Let’s continue with Legacy Backup Configuration.
BACKUP STATUS: With this option, you can make the backup structure active, passive, or active only for restorations.
BACKUP INTERVAL: We can select the backup interval as Daily, Weekly, or Monthly. Monthly backups also perform weekly backups. Selecting Daily performs monthly, weekly, and daily backups.
DAYS TO RUN BACKUP: We can select which days the backup will take place. For example, we marked Tuesday, Thursday, and Saturday.
BACKUP ACCOUNTS: Here we can select whether we want to back up accounts. If disabled, only system files will be backed up.
COMPRESS ACCOUNT BACKUPS: Select enabled if you want backup files to be compressed.
BACKUP CONFIGURATION FILES: Select enabled if you want to back up configuration files.
BACKUP SQL DATABASES: Here we can choose from 3 backup types: Per Account Only, Entire MySQL Directory, or Per Account and Entire MySQL Directory.
BACKUP ACCESS LOG: Enable or disable to back up server logs.
BACKUP BANDWIDTH DATA: Enable or disable to back up bandwidth data.
BACKUP TYPE: Standard (local storage) or Remote FTP.
BACKUP DESTINATION: Specify the directory where backed-up accounts will be stored.
SELECT SPECIFIC USERS: In this section, you can turn on the accounts you want to automatically back up.
Click Save to complete the backup configuration. To activate the backup system immediately, connect via SSH and run:
/scripts/cpbackup –force
For the backup system to work properly, go to Tweak Settings in WHM Panel and set the Extra CPUs for server load value to 10 or 20 based on your server’s CPU count and power. The backup system will not run when the server load reaches this value.
Finally, to restore the backups we have taken, we can restore the relevant user from Legacy Restore Backups in WHM panel.
