Dear Customers,
Microsoft has made constructive changes to server license pricing. Previously licensing was done according to the operating system used, but now it is priced according to the number of physical processors and processor cores on the servers. After this change, licenses and their pricing are as follows:
- Windows (2012⁄2008) Standard > 1 Proc per physical CPU count
- Windows (2012⁄2008) Datacenter > 1 Proc per physical CPU count
- SQL Server Web Edition > 1 Core per CPU Core count
- SQL Server Standard Edition > 1 Core per CPU Core count
- SQL Server Enterprise Edition > 1 Core per CPU Core count
After this change, Windows Server Web Edition license has been completely removed and there is no longer a distinction between Windows 2008 and Windows 2012.
For example, if the processor used in your server is an E3-1240v2, since this is a physically 4-core processor, it is charged as 4 Cores when licensing by CPU Core count.
We wish you good work.
