Addon Domain Converter and Migration
OVERVIEW
In this article, we will learn how to convert an existing addon domain to a full cPanel account and then perform the migration.
Important:
- Make sure there is sufficient available space related to the Convert operation.
- We strongly recommend taking a backup of the original account before starting the Convert operation.
We can reach the relevant menu with a shortcut by typing convert in the search column in the WHM panel.

After clicking the convert link on the right side of the domain name column we will convert, we are greeted by some main headings which are;
- Account Setting
- Allows you to configure the basic information of the account.
- Selection Details for “domainname.com”
This interface displays all items that can be migrated with the conversion and whether you have chosen to migrate them. It comes selected by default.
- Custom DNS Records
This option allows you to copy the custom DNS records of the addon domain to the new account. This option is selected by default.
Email
This option allows you to copy the email accounts, forwarders, and autoresponders of the addon domain to the new account. If there are email accounts for this account, this option is set to Selected by default. If there are no email accounts, this option comes disabled.
MySQL Databases
This option allows you to copy or move the MySQL databases of the addon domain to the new account. This option comes unselected by default.
Important:
If you choose to copy MySQL databases, make sure you have sufficient available disk space in the new location.
To copy the MySQL databases of the addon domain to the new account, follow the steps below:
- Click Configure in the MySQL Database section heading.
- Select the Copy button in the How Do You Want to Transfer Your MySQL Databases? section.
- Check the checkbox next to each database you want to copy, or select the checkbox in the table heading to select all.
- Enter a new name for each selected database. If prefixing is enabled on the server, the new database name automatically starts with the username_ prefix.

Click Save Selection.
To move the MySQL databases of the addon domain to the new account, follow the steps below:
- Click Configure in the MySQL Database section heading.
- Select the Move button in the How Do You Want to Transfer Your MySQL Databases? section.
Check the checkbox next to each database you want to move, or select the checkbox in the table heading to select all.
When you move a Database, the following permission changes occur,
- The addon domain owner will lose access to the database.
- The newly created cPanel account will have full access to the database.
Click Save Selection.
Subaccounts
This option allows you to copy the subaccounts of the addon domain to the new account. This option is set to Selected by default.
To copy subaccounts, follow the steps below:
- Click the Configure button in the Subaccounts section heading.
- Select the Copy FTP accounts checkbox.
- Select the Copy Web Disk accounts checkbox.
Click Save Selections.
At the end of all these operations, you can click the Start Conversion button.
